Many design firms like to say that they will perform “SEO” on your site as part of their package. That might mean adding some meta tags or submitting your site to a few search engines.
IT ISN’T THE BEST WAY TO GET YOUR SITE STARTED THOUGH!
From the moment your site is being created there are many aspects of a properly optimized site that should be considered. From url structure to navigation – it all affects your rankings so shouldn’t you be smart about it?
For example I am a SEO expert in Delaware. I live in a small town named “SMYRNA”. My bigger markets are Wilmington and Dover though. If you search for “DELAWARE WEBMASTER”, I’m on the first page (as I should be). If I had started out trying to focus on all the cities in the state I live in who knows where I would be for all of them. It would have required a different SEO strategy and a different structure for my website.
And a good designer who is looking out FOR YOU will take your SEO strategy into account before the first page is made.
